Latin
America Demilitarization
is a project that began in 1993 with Oscar Arias.
CIP’s Demilitarization Program works for U.S. policies that encourage
healthy civil-military relations, cooperative security, and respect for human
rights in Latin America and the Caribbean. We oppose irresponsible policies that
risk worsening conflict and strengthening militaries at civil society's expense.
Our
work involves cutting-edge research on the U.S.-Latin American military
relationship and security developments in the region; conferences, delegations,
and other efforts to educate policymakers and the public; and close
collaboration with non-governmental counterparts in Washington and Latin America.
