"The
U.S. government is committed to providing trade-related technical assistance to
developing countries in the Americas so that these countries participate fully
in important trade negotiations, such as the Free Trade Area of the Americas (FTAA)
and the World Trade Organization’s (WTO) Doha Development Agenda, and trade
effectively in a global environment. In fiscal year 2002, U.S. trade capacity
building assistance to the Americas totaled over $90 million, up from $61
million in 2001, a 49-percent increase (see table on page 19)..."
