Executive
summary
The
Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have elicited great
interest and attracted broad support from the international community.
At the recent Monterrey Conference on Financing for Development, world
leaders reaffirmed their clear and unequivocal support for the goals. The
experience of the last decade has shown that achieving them will be difficult
but not impossible. The countries of Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America and
the Caribbean are on course to fulfill many of the MDGs. But few African
countries are likely to meet most of them.
